Among Friends Printable Order Form | More Music Samples | Courthouse Records What
is "Among Friends" Among Friends is a group of musician friends in the Richmond, VA area who, for the past five years, have put on a spring concert. Under the leadership of folk singer, George Turman, they begin weekly practice in January for the concert held in April. George provides food for each evening practice session, usually chili, gumbo or stew. Each member is free to suggest songs and arrangements. As the show date nears, the list is distilled by consensus and rehearsals become more urgent until the final format emerges. The result is a mixture of styles and material that has thrilled audiences of all ages and gained the group a dedicated following. Most
of the musicians are in other musical groups and participate in Among
Friends for the social joy of it. It
is pure performance art: months of practice for one big show. The show
on April 7, 2001 at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, VA was a
sell out. Bill McElroy, Soundsmith and Grammy winning engineer, multi
track recorded the event live and mixed and mastered it in his studio,
Slipped Disc. Courthouse Records released the project as a double CD
in late April 2002.
